Western New York
The Region
Power
Western New York has long leveraged its geography to produce ample hydroelectric power at minimal costs. Along with this abundance of power, the region’s robust utility infrastructure has a reputation for being redundant, diverse, and stable. The region’s rich history of manufacturing was built on this immense source of renewable energy.
Climate
Buffalo benefits from a moderate average annual temperature with low cooling degree days. In addition, low elevation and maritime-like influences from Lake Erie provide advantageous winter weather to employ free-cooling. The region’s stable climate provides no or very low risk of hurricanes, tornadoes, earthquakes, forest fires, flooding, or other natural disasters.
Economy
The Queen City is New York State’s second largest city with a metro area population of more than one million. The local workforce enjoys a low cost of living, a low cost of real estate, and an unemployment rate below than the national average.
Connectivity
Buffalo is strategically centered among Toronto, Chicago, New York City, and Washington D.C. The city has long been a major logistical hub for international transport services. Today, that includes transporting information. The area’s complex connectivity fabric is highly redundant and diversified, resulting in low latency and high availability.
